Cougars encourage lingerie sales

A new report from Debenhams has reveiled that women across the country are spicing up their private life with the purchase of new lingerie after watching shows such as Cougar Town and films Sex and The City 2 that show off sexually confident older women.

Both show the bedroom antics of ladies in their 40s and 50s sleeping with much younger men and this is being credited with the sudden upturn in British women in the same age group looking for sexy underwear. Debenhams said that nationwide analysis of their most sold lingerie styles over the last six months revealed that the over 40s has given a huge boost to the lingerie market.

Annette Warburton, Debenhams’ head lingerie buyer, said: “Positive female role models in this age group such as the women in the Sex and the City movies and Courteney Cox in TV’s Cougar Town are giving the women confidence to splash out on themselves.

“With women’s 40s being touted as the new 20s, and lingerie designers stepping up to the mark to feed this demand, it’s a market we expect to see grow further in the future.”

The trend follows that of older women joining online dating sites, as old people look for romance after a divorce or widowing.
